Russian aircraft violated Turkish airspace near Syria

A Russian warplane has violated Turkish airspace on Oct. 3 at 12:08 a.m., in Yayladağı region in south of Hatay province, the Turkish Foreign Ministry announced with a written statement, on Oct. 5.

“The Russian aircraft exited Turkish airspace into Syria after it was intercepted by two F-16s from the Turkish Air Force, while patrolling in the region" said the statement, having added that the ministry summoned the Ambassador to Russia in Ankara, Andrey Karlov and severely protested the violation.

 The Ministry declared that Russia would be responsible for any undesired incident that could occur, in case of repetition of any such violation.

 Turkey’s Foreign Minister Feridun Sinirlioğlu also called his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov to express his concern and reaction.

 FM Sinirlioğlu also conducted telephone calls with his U.S., French, Italian and British counterparts to evaluate the event. He is also set to address NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg and his German counterpart.
